Despite the breadth and richness of student activities at Penn, groups in the Student Activities Council have accumulated a sizable debt in recent years. Although SAC is still able to fully fund groups according to its policies and guidelines, SAC is taking the initiative to help groups overcome this barrier before it becomes restrictive toward the budget in future years. SAC liaisons from the Executive Board are approaching groups in two categories -- those with a large amount of absolute debt carried over from many years ago, and those whose debt has substantially increased during the 2006-2007 academic year. Liaisons are working with groups to develop fundraising plans with ambitious but practical goals, focusing on erasing last year's debt increase and driving down the overall student group debt. The SAC General Body, including representatives of all recognized student groups, will have final approval of all plans for debt reduction. With all groups working together to solve this problem, we can ensure an equally broad and rich future for Penn student activities. |
