The Process of Getting Money

Budget & Allocations (B&A):

The allocations process for each academic year starts in the previous spring semester. Groups are asked to submit a budget detailing their planned activities and costs for the following academic year. They are also invited for an interview, where they can further elaborate on their budget. SAC recommendations are made to the general body for approval during our April GBM, where the group can appeal our recommendation. The approved funds will appear in a group's account in the following academic year. Detailed instructions for creating budget requests are here.

In recognition that not all events can be planned out ahead of time, groups can come in for contingency requests during the academic year.

Regular Contingency Request

When your group requires funding for an event or activity which was not foreseen during the Budgets and Allocations period, your group may apply for contingency funding for that particular event. The process for a contingency request is similar to B&A. Groups are asked to create a budget for their additional funds, and are also asked to come in for an interview. SAC's recommendation will be made to the general body at the closest GBM, where the group can appeal. If the general body approves the request, the approved funds will appear in the group's account following that GBM. Since funds appear in group accounts only after GBMs, please keep our meeting dates in mind when planning activities.

Detailed instructions for creating contingency requests are here.

Emergency Contingency Requests

In situations where funds are needed prior to the next GBM, groups can make an emergency contingency request. An emergency contingency request and a regular contingency request are very similar, except that SAC recommendations are final and cannot be appealed. Therefore, it is in the group's advantage to plan ahead to allow the opportunity for appeal.

The procedure for applying for emergency contingency funding is the same as for regular contingency funding. Detailed instructions are here.
